VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

The National Museum of the Marine Corps is searching for a few good men and women to help tell the story of the Marine Corps to visitors from around the world.

Available volunteer programs:

    Visitor Services

Greet Museum guests and answer questions about the Museum
    and surrounding area.

    Docents

Conduct special tours, answer questions and oversee patrons in the
Galleries, as well as, assist with the interactive exhibits.

The ideal candidate need not have served in the Marines or have any ties to the military. The chief requirements are an interest in Marine Corps history and plenty of energy.

Volunteer Program Requirements

Volunteer positions are open to all individuals with an interest and a commitment of service to the Museum who meet the qualifications without reference to race, color, religion, sex, age, or national origin. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age and able to perform their prescribed duties. A minimum time commitment of 8 hours per month is required to maintain volunteer status. Volunteers work independently, with other volunteers, and with permanent Museum staff.

Application and Training

Applications are submitted to the Visitor Services Chief. Applicants will be contacted for an interview by a member of the Docent Corps. A comprehensive training program is designed to prepare participants to operate effectively in their role as a NMMC volunteer. This invaluable training program features sessions highlighting each exhibit area and its collections. This mandatory training is scheduled as the requirement for new volunteers warrants.
